FRUITLESSNESS

MEMORY VERSE: “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire” – Matthew 3:10

BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 13:6-9

INTRODUCTION: God is never happy with fruitlessness (Matthew 21 :19) because it is against His wish and command (Genesis1:28). If any branch of the vine is not bearing fruit it will wither or be detached from the vine (John 15:2).

—– LESSON OUTLINES —–

1. CAUSES OF FRUITLESSNESS
2. DANGERS OF FRUITLESSNESS

CAUSES OF FRUITLESSNESS

1. Ignorance and disobedience to God’s word (Genesis 1:28; Hosea 4:6a; Matthew 21 :28-31 a).
2. Lack of genuine repentance from sin and other vices (Acts 3:19; Matthew 3:8).
3. Pre-occupation with the affairs of this world (Matthew 13:22; 1John 2:16-17).
4. Failure to evangelise and win souls (Romans 1:13;16; John 15:16).
5. Inadequate understanding of the accompanying blessings of fruitfulness (Romans 10:15; 1Thessalonians 2:19; Proverbs 11:30).

DANGERS OF FRUITLESSNESS

1. Condemnation, loss and pain (Matthew 25:24-30).
2. Reversal of blessings (1SamueI2:30-34; Mark 11:12-13).
3. Separation between God and the fruitless (Revelations 2:4-5).
4. Self-exposure to attacks (Jonah 1:1-4,15).
5. Total destruction ofthe fruitless (Luke 13:6-9).

CONCLUSION

Just as there are rewards for fruitfulness, there are also consequences of fruitlessness (Revelations 22:11-12). How prepared are you against fruitlessness?

QUESTIONS

2. How does fruitlessness bring about a reversal of blessings?
